Meaning of the word  يوم or day in Surah Al-Fatihah:

They will ask you for immediate torment while Allah will never  break His promise, indeed a day to Allah is equal to a thousand years of what you are reckoning.

Ibn Jarir At-Tabari interpreted this Ayah in his Tafsir:

Oh Muhammad! The Mushrik people (Polytheists) among your people will ask you about an immediate torment. You promised them Allah’s torment for their Shirk, and their denial of you in what you brought from Allah in this world. Allah will never break His promise with you about the legitimacy of Mushriks’ torment and the revenge upon them in this temporary world. Allah fulfilled what He promised them. So, He killed them on the day of Badr.

Ibn Jarir At-Tabari narrated a Hadith in his Tafsir regarding the day of Akhirah as Allah mentioned in an Ayah of Surah Al-Hajj,Ayah no-47:   وإن يوما عند ربك كألف سنة مما تعدون (indeed a day to Allah is equal to a thousand years of what you are counting).

Muhammad Ibnul -Muthanna told us, he said: Muhammad Ibn Ja`far told us, he said: Shu`bah told us, on the authority of Samak, on the authority of `Ikrimah, that he said regarding this Ayah: (indeed a day to Allah is equal to thousand years of what you are reckoning). He said: These are the days of Akhirah. (It means –a day of Akhirah is equal to a thousand years of the days of this world). In another Ayah of Surah As-Sijdah, Allah the Almighty said:

Allah conducts every affair from the skies to the earth then it ascends to Him on a day, the measure of which is one thousand years of what you are reckoning.)As-Sijdah-5) (Ref.1)

Abdur Rahman Ibnul Kamal Jalaluddin As-Suyuti narrated a Hadith regarding this Ayah in his Tafsir:

Abdur Razzaq, Ibn Jarir, Ibn Al-Munzir, and Ibn Abi Hatim narrated on the authority of Qatada regarding Allah’s saying يدبر الأمر “He manages the affair,” Qatadah said: it means- “Allah descends the affair from the sky to the earth and ascends from the earth to the sky in a day, the measure of which is one thousand years in journey, five hundred when it descends and five hundred when it ascends. (It means –every affair descends from the sky to the earth and ascends from the earth to the sky in one day, which is equal to one thousand years of this world).

 (Ref-2)

Abu Dawud Sulaimanul-Ash’ath Al-Azdi As-sijistani narrated a Hadith in his book about the day of Akhirah:

Amr Ibn Uthman told us, Abul Mughirah told us, Safwan told us, on the authority of Shuraih Ibn Ubayd, on the authority of Sa`d Ibn Abi Waqqas, on the authority of the Prophet(Sm.) that he said: “I hope my Ummah will not be unable to their Rab by delaying them for half a day.” It was said to Sa`d: “How many days in a half day? He said: “Five hundred years.” (Ref .3)

Explanation of the creation of the earth and the skies and everything between them in six days:

Allah the Almighty said in this regard:

ألله الذى خلق السموات والأرض وما بينهما فى ستة ايام (ألسجدة-4) Allah is the one who created the skies and the earth and what ever is between them in six days. (As-Sijdah-4). Allah the Almighty said in another Ayah of Surah Al-Araf:

إن ربكم الله الذى خلق السمواتوالأرض فى ستة أيام (الأعراف- 54)  Indeed your Rab is Allah who created the skies and the earth in six days( Al-A’raf-54). Al-Qadi Naseruddin Abu Sayeed Abdullah Umar Ibn Muhammad Ash-Shirazi Al-Baidawi interpreted this Ayah:

In six days means- six times, because a day is known as the period from sunrise to sunset, and at that time, it did not exist.(Ref.4)

Ibn Jarir reported a Hadith in this regard and he said:

Ibn Humaid told us, he said: Hakam told us, on the authority of Anbasah, on the authority of Semak, on the authority of Ikrimah, on the authority of Ibn Abbas ---Allah’s saying: : كألف سنة مما تعدون “Like a thousand years of those which you count.” Ibn Abbas said: Allah the almighty created the skies and the earth in six days, and every day of these is like a thousand years of those which you count.(Ref.5)
